Shithead of the week: Ashley Judd

NSFW

Ashley Judd is a shithead. Her new book about whatever the fuck had the following quotes about rap music:

YouthAIDS created hip public service announcements for TV and radio using popular local and international celebrities and athletes and was participating in the MTV World AIDS Day 'Staying Alive' concerts.

Along with other performers, YouthAIDS was supported by rap and hip-hop artists like Snoop Dogg and P. Diddy to spread the message ... um, who? Those names were a red flag.

As far as I'm concerned, most rap and hip-hop music -- with its rape culture and insanely abusive lyrics and depictions of girls and women as 'ho's' -- is the contemporary soundtrack of misogyny.

Now let's set aside the fact that a 40+ year old white woman probably does not have a working knowledge of what most hip hop even sounds like considering her background. So assuming she doesn't know much about hip hop, lets examine an industry she does know about.

Hollywood

Very affirming and pro-woman. Gloria Steinem stands at attention in her comfortable shoes.

Now she didn't name check that director or the producer who said that we are going to need to see you naked before we give you this role. She didn't mention her agent who failed to get the no-nudity clause in her contract. How about the guy that went knuckles deep inside of her when she was a young girl? No mention right? Does she call out Miramax for the gratuitous sex and violence in its movies. How about last years I Spit On Your Grave . I watched Good Luck Chuck and every 5 minutes there was a woman with her breast hanging out. How empowering must it have been to have hundreds of white women show up on some soundstage in L.A. for the chance to show their tits just to be some bit player in a low brow romantic comedy. But she isn't going to challenge white authority and the white power structure now is she? Hell if she doesn't like rap music she could call 3 or 4 white guys and stop a majority of the global distribution. But she isn't going to name check powerful white guys. She rather call out Snoop,50 and, Diddy because they aren't a threat to her career.

So she felt a ways about it and wanted to roll it back so she does what every white celebrity does in times of crisis and trots out her Negro friends. In this case she did an interview with Russell -never met a white woman he didn't like Simmons. (What's funny is if she felt so strongly about misogyny in hip hop why be friends with a man who has made his fortune and is synonymous with that culture)

I would reprint the interview but I don't feel like registering for that horrible Global Grind website. Basically, she said Desmond Tutu is her spirtitual advisor( no ordinary Black minister she needed at least a nobel prize winner) and Curtis Jackson is cool but she doesn't care for 50 Cent which is the intellectual equivalent of saying I like Sylvester Stallone but I don't agree with Rambo's politics. Russell basically co-signed everything she said and gave her Negro Cover®.

But maybe I'm wrong and she is right. One day we will have a world filled with men who sound like this.
